Soft tissue and joint injection therapy using corticosteroid medication and hyaluronic acid to help relieve pain, stiffness and swelling by reducing inflammation.
Our advanced practitioner in physiotherapy is qualified and highly-experienced in soft tissue and joint injection therapy. The injection is performed using a ‘landmark-guided’ technique which is appropriate for most injections.
You will first be booked in for an ‘injection opinion’ appointment during which a detailed medical history will be taken. This will help to determine if you are eligible for an injection and which one is the most suitable for you.
If an injection is recommended, the practitioner will discuss with you the different merits of and uses for the corticosteroid and the hyaluronic acid injections, so that you can agree together which one to use.

Please note that if you are unwell on the day of the appointment, the injection will need to be rearranged for when you are feeling better or have finished any antibiotics you may be taking.
We advise that someone drives you home from the appointment for DVLA purposes or in case you feel a little unwell.
You will be given a patient information leaflet (PIL) which will remind you of what was discussed and performed at your appointment, as well as any side effects to look out for.
You will also receive guidance on activity levels following any injection. Based on research, we believe the injection is more effective if you rest the area for the first 72 hours and avoid intense activity for two weeks.
We advise that you allow 15 minutes before leaving the clinic to ensure you feel well enough to travel home. Feel free to have a drink and biscuit while reading the newspaper!
Two-to-three weeks after the injection, you will have a review appointment where your pain will be reassessed and you will be given further guidance of rehabilitation and recovery. Next treatment options may also be discussed.
