Dr Sehmi qualified from Guys and St Thomas’ Medical School in 2003 winning numerous academic awards. Following this he completed junior doctor training on the Hammersmith medical rotation and at Addenbrookes Hospital Cambridge. He trained in cardiology on the coveted North West Thames rotation, having worked within several world-class centres. He completed three years of sub-specialist training in cardiac imaging as part of the prestigious Imperial College and the Royal Brompton fellowships.
He completed his PHD in 2013, during which he investigated genetic and environmental factors determining the increased risk of type-2 diabetes amongst South Asians compared to Europeans.
He has presented his work at several national and international meetings, and our work was published in multiple high ranking scientific journals.
He is an accredited specialist in cardiac CT, cardiac MRI, transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiography. He was appointed as a consultant in 2017 at West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS trust, where he is the lead for cardiac CT and heart failure. He has expertise in all aspects of general and preventive cardiology, heart failure and valvular heart disease.

Dr Sehmi believes in a patient-centric approach. His strengths lie in an ability to communicate and listen. His demeanour is very amiable and people find him approachable and easy to talk to. He specialises in all aspects of cardiology, with a sub-specialist expertise cardiac imaging. This enables him to understand and investigate patients’ symptoms in an entirely non-invasive way.
Outside of medicine he enjoys reading, cooking and most sports. He is fluent in Punjabi, Hindi and Urdu.
